Where we were...

By the end of the 1980s the Rowe Group, then under the leadership of Rodney and Ryan Rowe, had developed into an organisation with 22 depots and a fleet of 200 vehicles encompassing the south-west, south-east of England and South Wales. Rowe & Co Cornwall was by then…

The largest independent fruit wholesaler in the Country.

In the late 1990s the Company's business plans took a side step from its mainstream former activities within the fresh produce industry. It was considered at this time that it was time for change due to dramatic changes in trends in High Street shopping with the influx and rapid growth of the multiples and the effect it would have on the Company's customer base.

At this time the decision was made to sell the trading rights to the produce business to Ffyfes plc although Rowe & Co retained the properties as landlord.

Where we are...

Marking the end of an eventful calendar century, the Rowe Group passed on from being a fruit and veg retailer in 1900 to a diverse SME in 2000. The Rowe family moved with the times and continued to take advantage of business opportunities rapidly diversifying into major areas of industry and trade. This rapid strive for diversification and expansion was constituted by acquiring and setting up businesses and trades in various industries to build on the company portfolio. 1992 saw the acquiring of the David Ball Construction company (now trading as St Piran Homes) from which branched out Clearwood Joinery and Horizon Roofing. 1992 also saw the group acquiring an established company, LSI Computers (now trading as LSI Business Solutions). By the wake of the new century, Rowe & Co Cornwall (Holdings) Ltd. consisted of an integrated group of well managed, efficient subsidiaries in varied industries thus breeding a culture of unity in diversity.

With change came a parallel effort of establishing outstanding professionalism in the business leadership of the Rowe Group. The once family-run business moved to being led by a re-structured board including business leaders in specialised fields under the Group’s first non-family Chairman, Charles Howeson.

Today, The Rowe Group of companies consists of LSI Business Solutions, St Piran Homes, Clearwood Joinery, Rowe Property Development, Horizon Roofing and Rowe Estates, each in its own right, a successful brand name of its own. The Rowe Group stands at an asset base worth of over £40 million and measuring a turnover in 2002 of £18 million.
